Just over a week
and all this is over! And as previous posts have stated...I can't wait.
This week has been intresting, in terms of the fact I ran some experiments through my coder and the existing coder and well the output was.....noise! To be specific it was white noise. So it would seem I have 10000's of lines of code which produces white noise when ever you try to make an mp4 file. Great I can really see that taking off.
Anyhow after much investigation, it turned out that my input files were using a slightly different wav header format, than the coder was expecting (Hmm perhaps I should be writing this in my thesis instead of here!...oh well maybe i'll cut and paste this sentence!)....yes so now it appears to run my files, so I have to repeat all my experiments again. On running one file though, it is intresting to see how much quantisation noise is introduced when going from wav to mp3....it makes me sad to think that a generation are growing up listing to an inferior sound reproduction. It is also funny that studios are rushing to upgrade to 192Khz and 32 bit recording, yet their output will be listened to on a crappy iPod, with the life compressed out of it. Oh well that is technology I suppose....perhaps I really am now becoming an audiophile....but then again Analouge really does sound better....imho!
So once this is done what then? Well I am back basically, been off the scene for a while, but I am read now to get back to gigging, releasing and promoting a new Light B4 Sound CD and getting this film thing really rolling. I also have one or two other projects up my sleeve (yes it is a long one!) which I hope to get of the ground.
As for the blog, well yes it is about me and my life, but I am hoping to focus it a bit more on sound design and music so that it is intresting to read for those in the business....and I haven't got to much ranting left in me since Danny boy left. Well apart from the fact that out boiler isn't working and I have been having cold showers for a week now! But then again at least I have running water and food in the fridge and I am greatful for that.
This time next week hey!
Peace
Neil

1000 lines of code to get white noise? You're either a genius or totally insane!
First the Neighbor from Hell and now cold showers? Might be time to move.
Hello Ade!
